How to Disable Cash Payment in POS

How to Disable Cash Payment in POS

E-wallet growth

E-wallet payments are now a primary way customers pay, and many merchants are intentionally moving away from cash to match this shift.
In many markets, e-wallet usage has moved from niche to mainstream, with a majority of consumers now using some form of mobile or e-wallet payment for everyday spending. Central banks and regulators also report strong double-digit growth in e-payment transactions per person, showing that digital payments are now embedded in daily habits rather than occasional use.

Current payment trend

The broader trend is towards a “cash-lite” or cashless economy, where tap-to-pay cards and mobile wallets dominate in-store and online transactions. Government campaigns and bank initiatives are reinforcing this shift by making cashless options easier and sometimes making cash handling less convenient.

Why e-wallets are better

From a fraud and security perspective, e-wallets use technologies like tokenisation, encryption, and biometric authentication, which significantly reduce exposure to card data theft and payment fraud compared with handling cash or raw card numbers. For customers and staff, transactions are faster and more seamless, with tap-or-scan flows that shorten queues, while integrated rewards, cashback, and loyalty points make e-wallets feel more valuable than cash

How to disable Cash Payment in ClassicPOS?

To disable Cash as a payment option in ClassicPOS, update the payment configuration at outlet level, then refresh the POS so the new settings take effect.

Before you start
Disabling Cash is an outlet-level configuration, so it only impacts the selected outlet’s payment methods and not your global account settings. Ensure operations is aligned on the move to cashless to avoid confusion at the counter once Cash is removed from the payment screen.

  1. Navigate to System Configuration Payment Current Outlet in the ClassicPOS.

  2. Scroll to the Sales Payment Method Setting section.
  3. Locate the CASH payment method and uncheck it, select BOTH if this applies to both Sales Invoice and POS (RetailPOS and FnB POS).

  4. Go back to your POS and reopen the POS tab so the updated payment configuration syncs to the terminal.

Steps to disable Cash Payment on XIlnex Portal

  1. Log on to the Xilnex Portal at portal.xilnex.com using an account with access to System Configuration.
  2. Go to System Configuration > Sales Payment Method, or use the search bar to find “Sales Payment Method” directly.
  3. Select the store that should stop accepting cash so the changes apply only to that store.

  4. In the Payment Method Type list, locate Cash, toggle its status to Off, and choose the impacted module, such as POS and/or Sales Invoice.

What changes at POS
After refresh, Cash will no longer appear as a selectable tender on the payment screen, and staff will be forced to use card, e-wallet, or other enabled methods. This enforces your cashless acceptance policy at the UI level and reduces the risk of staff accidentally accepting cash once the outlet has gone fully digital.
