A product-knowledge guide for support and internal staff.
The Secondary Screen turns a second display — connected to the iPad by cable — into a customer-facing screen. While the cashier keeps working on the iPad as normal, the customer looks at their own screen showing the order, the amount to pay, a payment QR code, or a welcome image/video from the merchant.
Think of it like the small screen you see facing you at a supermarket checkout: the staff use their till, you see your own items and total.
The customer screen automatically switches between these views — the cashier doesn't manually change it:
| What the customer sees | When it appears |
|---|---|
| Welcome screen — the merchant's image or video, with a "Welcome" message | No active order (idle / standby), or the cart is empty |
| Order screen — the live list of items, quantities, and running total | While the cashier is adding items to the cart |
| Payment screen — the total and amount tendered | While the cashier is taking payment |
| DuitNow QR code | While a DuitNow payment is in progress, so the customer can scan it |
All settings live under Settings → Device Settings. Guide the merchant there first.
1. Open Settings in iPadPOS.
2. Go to the Device Settings section.
3. Find "Use external display as secondary screen" and switch the toggle ON.
1. Plug the second screen into the iPad using the USB-C / HDMI cable and adapter.
2. The customer view appears on the second screen automatically. (If the setting in Step A was off when the cable was plugged in, turn it on and reconnect the cable — see Troubleshooting.)
This is the picture or video customers see when there's no active order.
1. In Settings → Device Settings, tap "Asset Folder".
2. Tap "Browse Folder" at the top-right.
3. Pick an image or video from the iPad's files.
4. The chosen media becomes the welcome-screen background on the customer display.
1. In Settings → Device Settings, tap "Configure Font Size".
2. A live preview appears on the customer screen — drag the slider and watch the text on the second screen grow or shrink.
3. Tap Done to save, or Cancel to discard.
| Symptom | Check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Nothing shows on the second screen | Is "Use external display as secondary screen" turned ON? | Turn it ON, then unplug and re-plug the display cable. The app only starts the customer view when the cable connects with the setting already on. |
| Screen is blank / black | Is the cable fully seated? Was the display unplugged and plugged back mid-use? | Reseat the cable. If it went black after a brief disconnect, unplug and reconnect once more. Also confirm the adapter/cable supports video output for that iPad. |
| Welcome image/video won't update | Was a new file picked via Asset Folder → Browse Folder? Is it a supported type (PNG/JPG/JPEG/MP4)? | Re-pick a supported file. Remember media is per outlet — confirm you're on the right outlet. |
| Text is too small / too large | — | Use Settings → Device Settings → Configure Font Size and adjust with the live preview. |
| DuitNow QR not showing on customer screen | Is a DuitNow payment actually in progress on the iPad? | The QR only appears during an active DuitNow payment. If the cashier isn't at that step, it won't show. |
Q: Does the customer screen need its own internet or app?
No. It's just a display driven by the iPad. No separate app, login, or connection.
Q: Can I use a wireless (AirPlay) screen?
It can work — the app handles AirPlay like a wired screen — but for a checkout counter, wired (USB-C/HDMI) is recommended for reliability.
Q: Can each outlet have a different welcome image?
Yes. The welcome image/video is saved per outlet.
Q: The cashier's iPad looks normal — is that right?
Yes. The cashier always keeps the full cashiering screen; only the second display shows the customer view.
Q: What file types can I use for the welcome screen?
Images: PNG, JPG, JPEG. Video: MP4.
Q: Do I have to switch the customer screen between "order" and "payment" manually?
No. It switches automatically as the cashier adds items, takes payment, or clears the order.
